McQueen menswear 2006

We all know its the easiest thing in the world to get trapped in a McQueen images search and consume 10 collections before you realise you've gone off track. This particular collection was found during my Highland rape research- but I found it very relevant to the project because of the way the suits are presented on the models- and the way that I am trying to design my dinner jacket. The loose sleeves over the body ( the suit jacket draped on the shoulders without the arms in the sleeves) provide a wider stance and a bigger silhouette, and the question of "what happens to the sleeves?" was something I contested with when designing my jacket with one large armhole in the back. Shown below is the toile I ended up making- I did try the jacket with the sleeves intact and hanging loose and the arms out of the back hole- but decided this was too bulky and didn't allow you to see the form of the wearer enough. The solution seemed to be the collapsible sleeves- shown below- where the sleeves flatten out and attach to the bodice via eyelets
